Enter a cash amount, an annual inflation rate and a number of years to see what the money's real purchasing power shrinks to and how much has 'evaporated'. For sensing how much an emergency fund sitting in a deposit actually loses, or learning the concept of inflation.
Real value = cash ÷ (1 + inflation)^years. As prices compound upward each year, the same money buys correspondingly less. Evaporated amount = cash − real value; evaporated share = evaporated ÷ cash × 100, shown rounded to a whole percent. For example, 50,000,000 KRW at 3.5% for 5 years leaves 50,000,000 ÷ 1.035⁵ ≈ 42,100,000, so about 7,900,000 (16%) disappears. A one-line verdict is attached: 30% or more is 'asset suicide', 15% or more is 'creeping erosion', below that 'petty theft stage'.
If prices rise 3%, goods cost 1.03 times as much, so the same money buys 1 ÷ 1.03 as much. Hence the division by (1 + r)^n.
Real value would rise. The inflation slider starts at 1.0% a year, so zero inflation and deflation are not modelled.
Nowhere; the quantity the same money can buy has shrunk. The account balance is unchanged, only purchasing power falls.
